"Ursuline Bearbotics gave me countless opportunities to not only have a fun high school experience but also get a head start into a STEM future. Throughout the years I gained proficiency in tools I never thought I would touch, as well as developed a problem-solving mindset that has served me well outside of robotics. As a male-dominated field, robotics was a bit intimidating at first, but the process helped me strengthen my identity as a woman in STEM. I learned not only the mechanics of the robots but also the communication and leadership skills needed for the competitions themselves. With the opportunity of being the driver of the robot and a team captain, I was able to work with my teammates and other teams to design strategies unique to each match. These opportunities were what I wrote about in my college paper and scholarship essays, granting me several scholarships from the college I attend. I am currently majoring in computer science, and that would not have been on my radar without the opportunity of Ursuline Bearbotics. Robotics was an unforgettable experience that shaped my life in a way as the first stepping stone into a STEM career. " - Alicia K '24
